Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV can’t come soon enough for many fans, but now those fans will have to wait even longer. Mack Maine, president of Young Money, explained that Lil Wayne was pushing back the release date to June 21, despite the original release date of May 16.
“We’re in L.A. right now. We have a little studio time and it should be done probably by Monday,” Maine said. “[Wayne]‘s still perfecting a few things, he’s a perfectionist.”
According to Maine, one of the biggest problems in getting Tha Carter IV out on time was having to wait for verses from guests to arrive. Tha Carter IV will feature an all-star cast of guests, including Rick Ross, who joins Lil Wayne on “If I Die Tonight”. The video – an unfinished version, according to Maine – for that song leaked online, continuing a trend that has plagued Tha Carter IV since the recording process started.
“The same day it leaked out, we had just approved the cover that morning,” Maine said of the now-leaked Tha Carter IV cover. “Soon as we approved it, it leaked out within two hours.”
While leaks are all over the music industry these days, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV has been subject to more than usual due to the fact that it is so highly anticipated. Wayne’s stint in prison made the future of his recording career unclear, but he has returned to music with the same passion with which he left.
