Why do people buy the songs of recently deceased musicians? Amy Winehouse's songs came out quite recently (compared to, say, Michael Jackson) so why do people feel the need to buy her songs now rather than when they first came out?
—Chanda, via Facebook
You mean why did I just buy Frank this week—which I did—when I could have purchased it years ago, when it was just as good of an album?
Well, I found out for you...
According to Keith Caulfield, associate director of charts for Billboard, the reason why three Winehouse albums are currently near the top of the iTunes album charts is this: Many people really, truly, didn't know who she was before this week.
Really! I did. You did. But not everybody did.
"A lot of it has to do with people just discovering who an artist is," Caulfield says. "It's an ironic twist that many people don't learn of an artist until that artist passes away.
"Or there may be a lot of people who have known about her, and knew the songs she had, but didn't necessary make the connection. And when someone passes away, people make the connection for you."
(I myself didn't own Frank, only Back to Black, until this week. Unfortunately, it took the death of Winehouse, and public discussions of her discography, to remind me of that first album and give it a listen.)
Finally, there are those who are buying the music as a kind of memorial or appreciation.
And just how much are people buying? Hey, glad you asked.
Already, Back to Black reentered the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart this week.
In the meantime, crank up the volume, and let's all sing along to "F--k Me Pumps," with me and all my crew on the latest podcast.

David Beckham Shows Love for Baby Harper With New Tattoo
It's safe to say Harper Seven is going to be one heck of a daddy's girl.
From the day she was born, David Beckham has told the world just how enamored he's been with his little one, so it was only fitting that he honored his first daughter with some fresh ink.
Sitting at the bottom of Beckham's neck is "Harper" in curly cursive writing, which he gave fans a glimpse of during a recent television interview.
But, this isn't Becks' first foray into family body art.
The proud pop is known for his wide variety of tattoos, and already has one of Jesus carried by three cherubs, who symbolize his sons, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. A tribute to wife Victoria is also on his famous bod, in the form of a 6-inch angel with the words, til death do us part.

The Hostel season 1 comes to an end and season 2 to air in September.
After airing the last episode (Ep.90)of the first season of the Hostel on thursday 28th July, filming of the second season has also been completed. According to to Solaire Munyana of Fast Track productions, filming was wrapped up on 7th July and the cast and crew are on a two month break. “They will be back for filming in September and Season 2 will air in September/October,” she said.
We certainly cannot wait for season two since season one brought alot of excitement with the show being nominated for the buzz teeniez awards 2011 teeniez TV show/drama and the girls of the hostel gracing the cover of the 28th issue of buzz magazine.
Season one ended with only cliff hangers; Hope finding out that she had a sibling she never knew about, Odoch opening up to Kitty after cheating on her, someone getting arrested, new relationships formed and so many broken.

Do artists need an education
Do artists need an education by The Katalist-swmasaba@yahoo.com
Correct me if am wrong but it is said that the teacher to student ratio is about 1 to 200 in Uganda. Tertiary institutions churn out about 4-5 hundred thousand children every year compared to about 50 thousand jobs created each year. These deficits make one think about whether it is worthwhile to even attend a class when some of our western counterparts run multi-national companies with a click of a mouse behind a cozy closed door somewhere in California or some expensive all paid for hotel.
One would argue that ignorance is far more expensive than an education. Artists brag about making millions even after dropping out of school. The same artists can barely read the fine print of their respect contracts that they often sign without much care.
An American rapper by the names of 50 cent managed to negotiate a deal that earned him 1 million dollars even before even stepping into the studio. A fit that has never been matched worldwide. Usually the money paid upfront has to recuperated with future proceeds but his case was an exception thanks to his clever business acumen though I don’t think he cleared school. One can’t ignore that the circumstances in their area is far more different from ours. In Uganda, artists rise and fall every 6 months largely because of lack of a common sense academic approach to their respective careers.
DO ARTISTS NEED AN EDUCATION ??? It is clear that those who have an education have far more to offer than those that don’t. You can tell by the type of items that the various artists seem to purchase even when the money made is not that good. Why buy expensive cars, bogus real estate, large mansions and move around with ten people at a time, when all you need is a flat, one nice car, a few quiet businesses and good media appeal that attracts good elite sponsers. Having mentioned the later and the former it is safe to say that you can pretty much judge and see where these individual artists lie.
I guess the head teacher will not allow dreadlocks in the class or skimpy mini skirts moving around provocatively in the compound. However that having been said I think these artists really need an education because my guess is that 80% of them barely make it to the university which is where the true light of the world is witnessed. Nowadays, at least in Sub-Saharan Africa, an artist must attain at least a degree to be respectable in society unlike a statesman who only needs to crack a few sensational lines and get voted into office. What an awful picture !
Do you get a picture of how the system works. It is said that when you look at the grades earned in school one can conclude that the A’s end up working for the C’s while the B’s buy the products. The person who came into this conclusion basically was of the view that most A’s go corporate in companies created by the C’s while the B’s are the miscellaneous middle class. A fair state of affairs but one needs to have experience school to get the concept.
I do believe that these artists need to think of grabbing some books before grabbing the faulty microphones as is the case in Uganda I should say.

KEKO JOINS BABOON FOREST AS PLATINUM ENTERTAINMENT SIGNS KLEAR CUT
Keko’s rise to stardom has taken everyone by surprise due to the fact that she has been active in the music industry for only a year. One guy credited for her success is Shadrack of platinum entertainment. But shockingly, we woke up to info last Thursday that Keko has switched management from Platinum to Baboon forest camp. An insider tells us Keko alleges that Shadrack’s failure to book her performances is the main reason why the two fell out. Keko under platinum became a household name in the hip hop genre with just “How we do” and “kwekunyakunya” the remix in which she’s featured alongside Juliana and Cindy. She is the first female artist from Uganda to perform at the big brother eviction ceremony; she recently became one of the few East African artists to be interviewed on Channel O and was a few weeks back voted breakout and best Female artist of the year in the just concluded Buzz Teeniez Awards. Keko has now joined the likes of MunG, Gnl and Big Trill in the Baboon camp. Meanwhile after falling out with Keko, Shadrack turned all his guns to Klear Kut and the latest is that he last Friday secured JB and Myth as his latest recruitments in platinum Entertainment. Shadrack, is the main guy who single handedly lifted the hip hop genre by nurturing half of the hip hop artists in Uganda like GNL, Don Mc, Keko, among others.
CHAMELEONE CHANGES STAGE NAME
Chameleon is one artist who will never seize to amuse us. When we think he’s run out of ideas, he bounces back and does things that will make everyone talk. The singer we can confirm has added figures to his name thus becoming chame000,000. Chameleon real names Joseph Mayanja has had a variety of stage names like Heavy weight, Dr, Proffessor, Atagejja, Atakogga among others but promises to stick to the new names. Chameleon adopted the new name two months back but only started using it in his latest “Owakabi” video. So if anyone happens to come across Chame000,000, just know it’s the original “Katupakase” singer.

Lil Wayne Delays Tha Carter IV Until June 21
Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV can’t come soon enough for many fans, but now those fans will have to wait even longer. Mack Maine, president of Young Money, explained that Lil Wayne was pushing back the release date to June 21, despite the original release date of May 16.
“We’re in L.A. right now. We have a little studio time and it should be done probably by Monday,” Maine said. “[Wayne]‘s still perfecting a few things, he’s a perfectionist.”
According to Maine, one of the biggest problems in getting Tha Carter IV out on time was having to wait for verses from guests to arrive. Tha Carter IV will feature an all-star cast of guests, including Rick Ross, who joins Lil Wayne on “If I Die Tonight”. The video – an unfinished version, according to Maine – for that song leaked online, continuing a trend that has plagued Tha Carter IV since the recording process started.
“The same day it leaked out, we had just approved the cover that morning,” Maine said of the now-leaked Tha Carter IV cover. “Soon as we approved it, it leaked out within two hours.”
While leaks are all over the music industry these days, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV has been subject to more than usual due to the fact that it is so highly anticipated. Wayne’s stint in prison made the future of his recording career unclear, but he has returned to music with the same passion with which he left.
While you wait for Tha Carter IV, you can check out I Am Not a Human Being, which Lil Wayne released while in prison – Bloginity’s review is right here; download Lil Wayne’s music right here.
Lil Wayne is currently on tour with Travis Barker, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross; find tour dates and tickets right here.
Are you waiting for Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV to leak early, or can you hold it down until June 21? Let us know in the comments.

Lady Gaga says Judas video is ”the greatest”
LADY GAGA has revealed that her ‘Judas‘ video is “the greatest”.
The ‘Poker Face’ singer -- who is well known for being controversial in the music industry -- stars as Mary Magdalene in the video, which came under fire from religious groups.
Gaga was forced to release her ‘Judas’ single four days earlier than planned following a leak online, which she later described as a “slow death”.
But hopefully there will be no leak when her video drops, and if Gaga’s own opinion is anything to go by then we’re all in for a great watch.
She told ‘Daybreak’:
“The message of faith in the video is so powerful and beautiful. I think that the video will be one of the most ‘I didn’t know that about her’ things that has ever happened.”
‘Judas’ is the second single from the singer’s ‘Born This Way’ album, which is set to be released on May 23 -- and we can’t wait for further controversial singles to be released from her LP.

Vampos/Michael Ross against Aziz showdown
Looks like artists are starting off from where they left off last year with holding concerts on the same date.
Forget the Bebe vs Bobi Wine saga and the Goodlyf/ Grace Showdown now the latest is the battle between Vampos alongside Michael Ross against Aziz Azion.
Vampos who has never held any concert in his 10 year music career will be teaming up with Michael Ross in a duo concert dubbed “Fire concert” at Kyadondo rugby club while Aziz Azion will be holding his second concert “Oxygen” at Kat kati restaurant the same venue he launched “Wampisa” last year.
Aziz Azion has been riding high on tracks like “Oxygen and Baliwa” while Vampino has topped charts with songs like “Kwekunyakunya rmx, Luv to dance, Onzita and Ndongo”.
Come the 24th of June, the battle lines will be drawn to find out who will be able to pull it off.

Kendra sex tape pictures released online.
Earlier today we reported that Kendra Wilkinson could make a killing off her sex tape, should she decide to take the deal that could potentially ruin her chances for future endorsements.
“We were stunned by the overwhelming response from her fans after we released our first photos of Kendra last week. And they made it very clear that they wanted to see even more revealing shots from her movie, so we made a special selection of additional photos that we are posting today,” said Founder/Co-Chairman Steven Hirsch.
Beyonce hints that she was a virgin when she met Jay-Z
Even though Beyonce has never really talked about virginity like some pop stars, it appears that she believed it was pretty important.
In a recent interview, Beyonce hints that she was a virgin when she met now-husband Jay-Z, states Hollyscoop (via MediaTakeOut.com). She admits to having one other boyfriend before Jay-Z, but claims that it was never anything serious.
“[W]e didn’t live together, we didn’t, you know…” Beyonce says about the only other experience she has had with a guy. She then reveals that Jay-Z was the next boyfriend after that guy.
Do you think Beyonce is a good role model?

Britney Spears has become the second artist in Billboard history to debut multiple songs at No. 1. The other person is Mariah Carey.

Critics Choice Awards: The Fighter Wins a Few Rounds, but The Social Network Scores the Knockout
Whether Mark Zuckerberg is ready or not, The Social Network has gone public.
The Story of Facebook was named Best Picture at the 16th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards tonight, one of four honors for the unequivocal smash hit (seriously, who thought a thriller about a website was going to be amazing?), making for a very promising start to the viva glam red carpet portion of the 2010-11 awards season.
Last year, the Broadcast Film Critics Association was six for six in the film, directing and acting categories as far as eventual Oscar winners were concerned (minus having Meryl Streep tie with Sandra Bullock for Best Actress), so who else's stock just skyrocketed?
